The city of Beijing is filled with huge skyscrapers. Although they dominate the skyline, it’s the ancient ruins, temples and historic places that make it fascinating. Also, considering that this city is a major metropolis, it doesn’t have a defined downtown. The heart of the city isn’t based on shopping malls or business centers, but with places that have historic and religious importance. One of these places is Tian'anmen Square, Gate of Heavenly Peace. It’s the front gate of the Forbidden City and led to the supreme power in imperial times. Within the square are the Monument to the People’s Heroes and the Memorial Hall of Chariman. The Forbidden City was the imperial palace during the Ming and Qing dynasties. Now known as the Palace Museum, it is one of the most popular tourist attractions worldwide.

Enjoy a walk through the Summer Palace, a beautiful display of classic Chinese garden design and creativity. Or you could visit the Temple of Heaven, whose image graces numerous postcards because it’s so picturesque. Explore a portion of the Great Wall as it zigzags across a portion of this countryside.

Once you make your way outside of the city you’ll come across Ming Tombs. Here you’ll find the mausoleums of 13 emperors of the Ming Dynasty. Because of its long history and stunning architecture, the site has a high cultural and historic value.
